DETROIT – Eastbound I-94 has reopened at Chene Street in Detroit after a deadly crash closed it down for hours Wednesday morning.
The crash happened about 4:25 a.m. Wednesday on eastbound I-94 near Mt. Elliott. Michigan State Police said a vehicle appears to have struck the median wall, veer across all lanes and finally come to a rest on the right shoulder.
The driver, a 49-year-old Harper Woods man, was killed. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle. State police said it appears he was not wearing a seat belt.
State police had the interstate shut down at Chene Street while they investigated the crash. The eastbound lanes are now open to traffic again.
