SB Southfield Freeway reopens at 8 Mile Road after bomb threat

DETROIT – The southbound lanes of the Southfield Freeway were temporarily shut down Thursday afternoon at 8 Mile Road due to a bomb threat in a nearby neighborhood.

All traffic was being diverted to 8 Mile Road. The southbound lanes of Southfield Freeway reopened just before 5 p.m.

Detroit police say they received a 911 call about 4:10 p.m. from a man who said his neighbor placed a bomb on his porch.

Sgt. Michael Woody told Local 4 there was a canister sitting on the man's porch with some kind of "wires sticking out of it." The bomb squad was called to the home.

The object in dispute turned out to be headphones.
