1 person killed in crash on North River Road in Harrison Township

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. – One person was killed Monday morning in a crash on North River Road between I-94 and Bridgeview in Harrison Township, according to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office.

Three vehicles were involved in the crash about 2:46 a.m. Two people suffered non-life-threatening injuries. 

The Sheriff's Office said an 18-year-old Chesterfield Township man was killed. North River Road between Bridgeview and Irwin will remain closed while deputies investigate the crash

Here is what happened, according to the Sheriff's Office: 

At approximately 2:46am, a 2007 BMW was travelling eastbound on North River Road (in Harrison Township).  The driver attempted to overtake (pass) another vehicle, a 2004 Saab that was also travelling eastbound.

When the driver crossed the centerline (of North River) he collided head-on with a westbound 2010 Chevy Malibu.  The driver of the BMW was killed as a result of the impact. The driver of the Chevy Malibu, a 19 year-old from New Baltimore was transported to a local hospital for treatment of what is believed to be non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Saab, a 19 year-old from Harrison Township was not injured, although this car was damaged in the crash.

The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office has a portion of North River Road (between Bridgeview and Irwin) closed while we complete the investigation.  

It is not known if alcohol was a factor in this crash.
