WB lanes of I-94 reopen at 21 Mile Rd. after hours-long closure

CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – A crash on I-94 closed westbound lanes Tuesday morning for hours as crews worked to upright the vehicles involved.

A 57-year-old man was driving a semi tractor trailer on the 21 Mile Road entrance ramp onto I-94 when he lost control and slid across all three westbound lanes of the expressway, police said.

A 46-year-old man was driving a 2014 Ford passenger van in the leftmost lane when the trailer collided with the van and pinned it against the median guard rails, according to Chesterfield Township Police.

"It appears that speed and alcohol may be a factor involved in the crash," Chesterfield Township Police Chief Bradley Kersten said.

Both drivers were taken to McLaren Macomb Hospital where they sustained no life threatening injuries.
