Headline Goes Here

DETROIT - The Fort Street Bridge over the Rouge River will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday for safety testing.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) said inspectors will be testing the drawbridge by raising and lowering it. Drivers will need to seek alternate routes during the testing periods of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Here are MDOT's suggested detours:

  • Northbound drivers can use northbound I-75 as detour and southbound drivers will need to plan an alternate route due to southbound I-75 construction closure.
  • Westbound I-96 is the southbound I-75 detour. Drivers can head west to a southbound route during the temporary closure.

"This inconvenience is necessary for the important testing of the bridge to ensure the safety of drivers above and ships below," MDOT said in a statement.
