State police said troopers did not observe any skid marks prior to the vehicle striking the beams. The Jaws of Life had to be used to extricate the driver, who was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
There were no passengers in the vehicle. No other injuries were reported.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor, police said. Troopers are trying to determine how the driver entered the closed portion of the freeway.
Anyone with information on this crash needs to contact Michigan State Police.
