3 trucks involved in crash

VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich. – The northbound lanes of I-275 were closed at Ecorse Road on Tuesday due to a fatal crash involving multiple trucks, police said.

Three trucks were involved in the crash at 12:47 p.m. Tuesday, police said. Two of the trucks were semi trucks, and one was a car hauler.

One of the drivers was killed and another was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

One of the trucks has been hauled out, and officials are towing the cars from the car hauler one by one. There is also debris scattered on the highway.

Police said there was a smaller truck that was also involved in the crash, possible a box truck belonging to the Macomb Group. The company said the driver was stopped in traffic and hit from behind.

Michigan State Police troopers said the driver of that box truck is the one who was killed. He has been identified as a 30-year-old father and husband from Sterling Heights.

The second driver was airlifted to University of Michigan Hospital and is in critical condition, officials said.
