2 killed in crash at US-23 near Michigan Avenue

PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Michigan State Police say a 19-year-old man is suspected of driving drunk Thursday when his Ford F-150 crossed the US-23 center median heading northbound and collided with a Mercury Sable, killing two teenagers.

The Pittsfield Township Fire Department was dispatched to a reported rollover accident after 4 p.m. Thursday. The crash closed Southbound US-23 at Michigan Avenue.

Police said the Jaws of Life were used to remove the driver's door of the pickup truck.

Police said the two 18-year-old men in the sedan were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford F-150 and a 23-year-old woman, who was sitting in the front seat of the sedan, were taken to the hospital in critical and serious condition.

Michigan State Police are investigating the crash.

Pittsfield Township police and firefighters told drivers to avoid the route. The road has since reopened.
