$3.5 million M-5 project begins

MDOT is set to begin a $3.5 million project to repair the M-5 pavement between 12 Mile Road and Pontiac Trail. Work on the 3-mile stretch is expected to take at least 4 weeks. The project was announced at the end of March but an exact start time date was not announced until Friday morning.

The southbound side of M-5 will be under construction first. It will be closed between Maple Road and 12 Mile Road starting at the end of April or early May. Once the southbound work is completed, northbound M-5 will close between 12 Mile Road and Pontiac Trail for construction.

MDOT said all roads crossing M-5 will remain open with one lane open in each direction through the intersections. The 12 Mile Road ramps to southbound M-5 will remain open while the southbound lanes are closed.
