You might expect airports experience more delays in the winter, and the summer months should bring smooth sailing. According to new research, you would be wrong.

The travel rewards site MileCards.com crunched the numbers and found among the top 50 airports in the U.S. 38 percent have more delays in the summer. There are two reasons why: it's the busiest travel time of the year and there's often severe weather activity, which can strike unexpectedly.
Ruth to the Rescue contacted MileCards.com to get the entire list of 50 airports. It turns out Detroit is close to the middle, ranked #19, over the last 10 years. The website's research shows last summer 2014 was the best summer of the last ten for Detroit delays.
The numbers also show June is the worst month for delays in Detroit, with just 76.4 percent on-time flights over the last ten years.
