'Greetings from Detroit': Old postcards tell story of city's historic past

DETROIT – If you're looking to dive deep into the history of Detroit - start with postcards.

Postcards give us the first glimpse into Detroit's industrial and residential growth in the early 20th century.

Dan Austin of Historic Detroit has collected postcards showing the city through different periods.

Austin has a new book called "Greetings from Detroit," which you can buy right here. All purchases from the Historic Detroit shop help to support the site.

Here's more on the book:

Greetings from Detroit: Historic Postcards from the Motor City offers a glimpse into the past through more than two hundred historic postcards of Detroit from the early 1900s to the 1950s, compiled and presented in full color by Dan Austin of HistoricDetroit.org. From familiar sights to long lost landmarks, this book pairs vintage views with rich stories from the Motor City’s yesteryear.

Austin is also working on a book about Belle Isle, which he is raising money for. More info here.
