Partly sunny Friday ahead of Arctic Express

Chilly Friday with frigid Arctic blast looming

Detroit Area wind chills at 5am ET on Friday, January 18, 2013.

DETROIT – Friday morning will be very cold but dry with lows in the middle and low teens.  Wind chills will be in the single digits for students and workers who will need to go back to dressing in layers.  The afternoon will be partly sunny and seasonable.  It will be a delightful Winter day with highs near 32. 

Friday night will be colder for the NAIAS Charity Preview.  Temps will fall into the 20s for attendees on the red carpet.

Saturday will have mostly cloudy skies, but a southwest wind will push highs above average to near 40 degrees.

Saturday night will have snow showers with a cold front ahead of an Arctic blast that will dominate Sunday, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and early next week.  Sunday's temps will be in the 20s.  Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday will have early morning lows near 10 degrees or lower and afternoon highs in the teens to near 20.  Feels like temps will be below zero frequently.  This is the coldest air of January and, thus, 2013.
