DETROIT – Saturday morning will be frigid in the Motor City area with temps in the teens and wind chills less than 10. Fortunately, it will be dry with mostly sunny skies. Hand warmers will be needed for families lining up along Pontiac's Holiday Extravaganza Parade route.

Saturday afternoon will be mostly sunny and very cold with highs in the middle 20s, which is ten to fifteen degrees below average. Spartans fans driving to Indianapolis will not escape the arctic air and will encounter freshly fallen snow that will get deeper as they get closer to Lucas Oil Stadium where the Michigan State plays Ohio State University for the Big 10 title. Kickoff is at 8:17pm ET. Over 6 inches of new snow will be on the ground in central Indiana. Drivers will need to stay up-to-date on road conditions and traffic by using their AM-FM and satellite radios and apps with traffic coverage like the free ClickOnDetroit app. Indianapolis weather will be mostly sunny and very cold with temps in the low 20s. Yes, it will be colder in Indy than Motown.

Saturday evening will be fair and frigid in Detroit with temps falling back into the teens.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy with lows near 10 degrees. Families will need to make sure their pets are back indoors and be careful using fireplaces and space heaters to stay warm. Also, it is a good idea not to overload electrical outlets with holiday decorations.

Sunday will have increasing clouds and remain sub-freezing. Afternoon temps will be near 30 degrees. Snow is possible after dinnertime Sunday night. Accumulations will be less than an inch, but roads and sidewalks may be slippery by midnight and Monday morning.

The Detroit Lions play against the Philadelphia Eagles in the City of Brotherly Love beginning at 1pm, Sunday. Snow is coming for Philly, too, but not until the end of the football game. Anyone expecting to return to Detroit Sunday evening can expect delays on the road and at the airport.

Southeast Michigan remains locked in the freezer Monday and much of next week. Daytime temps will be in the 20s, and nighttime lows will be in the teens through Thursday.
