Warning over, but cold still dangerous

Highs just above zero

DETROITWIND CHILL WARNING is in effect for Detroit and all of Southeast Michigan until 12 noon ET, Sunday!

The Motown area remains locked deep in the freezer Sunday and Monday. Century-plus old record lows will be tested for the next two mornings with afternoon temps barely above zero at times and wind chills buried well below zero.

Sunday afternoon will remain dangerously cold. Highs will just make it above 0 degrees under mostly sunny skies.

Temperatures go back below 0 Sunday evening. Space heaters must be kept away from anything flammable, and candles and fireplace must be monitored by adults at all times.

Another Detroit record low temp will be tested overnight into Monday morning. -9 is the lowest temperature on record Monday, Presidents' Day.

Monday afternoon will be partly sunny, and it will still feel like the North Pole. Highs will be between 5 and 9 degrees.

Fat Tuesday (Mardi Gras) will be the warmest day of the work-week with highs near 25 degrees, but there is a chance of snow showers. Slippery conditions will exist for rides to and from work and school.

The mercury decreases, again, Ash Wednesday, with morning lows near or below zero and highs in the single digits. Wind chills go back below zero. Thursday will be just as frigid with partly sunny skies and temps ranging from near or below zero in the morning and in the low teens in the afternoon.
