Higher weekend temps with more sun

Blizzard of 2016 dumps tons of snow east

DETROIT – As the Blizzard Of 2016 dumps 1 to 3 feet of snow on the East Coast, some sunshine returns for Detroit and Southeast Michigan this weekend with temps eventually traveling above freezing.

Saturday morning will be mostly cloudy with a few lake effect flurries come from Lake Erie and Lake Huron. Easterly and northeasterly winds blowing around the great winter storm of the Mid-Atlantic will be the source of only minor, conversational snow in the Motor City area at breakfast time and just before lunch. Temps will be near 20 degrees in the city and in the teens in surrounding neighborhoods at dawn.

Saturday afternoon will be mostly cloudy to partly sunny. It will be seasonably chilly outside the North American International Auto Show. Families will need to remember to wear their coat, hats, scarves and gloves with highs near 30 degrees or just a bit more. Detroit's average high is 32°F.

Saturday evening will be partly cloudy and still chilly. Temps will be in the 20s.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy to mostly clear and colder. Temps will fall to the middle and lower teens with some wind chills in the single digits.

Sunday will be sunnier with no flakes in the forecast. Highs will be beyond the freezing mark by a few degrees, at least; in the middle 30s.

More sunshine will greet students and works Monday. Highs will be in the middle and upper 30s. A separate snow storm will approach Motown and give us our next chance of snow Monday night and Tuesday. Overnight lows will be near 20°F. Tuesday's highs will be near 30°F with enough snow to brush away or shovel.
