Cold Friday night, higher temps this weekend

Lows in the mid 20s

Friday night will become cold but stay dry. After temperatures sink, they soar on Saturday and Sunday.

Friday night will be partly to mostly cloudy. The clouds will keep temperatures in the low and middle 20s overnight. The wind will make it feel like it's in the teens. Basketball fans going to and from the Detroit Pistons game against the Cleveland Cavaliers at The Palace of Auburn Hills will need to dress warmly outdoors.

As high pressure cruises east of Detroit, the clockwise wind around it will blow from the south and southwest where it's warmer. This will push Southeast Michigan temps 10 to 20 degrees above average this weekend.

Saturday afternoon will be partly sunny and relatively mild. Highs will be near 45°F. It remains dry Saturday evening for Monster Jam fans going to and from Ford Field to watch monster trucks. Jackets will be needed to stay warm; certainly fewer layers to be worn than on a typical winter evening.

Sunday will be cloudier but warmer. Highs will be near 50°F. Ahead of a new storm system, scattered rain showers are possible. It will not be a wash-out, but having an umbrella handy will be a good idea.

Monday will be partly sunny and cooler. Highs will be in the low 40s.

America's next winter storm will dump heavy snow across central Great Plains, western Midwest and The UP (including Iowa). The Motown area will be on the warm side of the storm, at first. Rain will fall on Tuesday with temps in the low and middle 40s. Scattered snow showers will fall on Wednesday with temperatures falling through the 30s after a cold front passes.
