Frigid Saturday night, Valentine's Day

Wind chills -5 to -20

DETROIT – The coldest air of winter arrives in Detroit and Southeast Michigan Valentines' Day Weekend. There will be a few flakes in the beginning, but the main story is how low wind chills go.

A WIND CHILL ADVISORY is in effect for Lapeer, Sanilac and St. Clair Counties until 11am ET, Saturday.

Saturday morning will be frigid with a few flurries. Morning lows will be between 0 and 9 degrees above zero. Wind chills will be well below zero; -5 to -15 degrees. Families must avoid frostbite by dressing in layers and covering all extremities.

Saturday afternoon will be very cold with highs 15 degrees or more below average. Temps will max out near 15 degrees. Wind chills will be below or just above zero all day. Skies will be mostly cloudy to partly sunny. Families going to the Meridian Winter Blast will find a nice warm home in the warming tents in between ice skating, riding on dog sleds and sliding down the snow slide.

Saturday evening will become much colder again with temps falling in the single digits before midnight.

Saturday night will be partly cloudy to mostly clear and dangerously cold. Lows will be near or below zero with wind chills as low as -20 degrees. Detroiters must remember to bring all pets indoors and be careful with space heaters; keeping them away from anything flammable and making sure they do not tip over.

Happy Valentines' Day, Sunday! Snuggle weather remains in the region, but it will be sunnier. Highs will be in the middle and upper teens with wind chills near zero most of the day.

Presidents' Day, Monday and Tuesday will have higher temperatures, but snow arrives, too. Snow showers are likely on the holiday with highs in the low 30s. Streets and sidewalks will be slippery on that day and Tuesday. Tuesday's highs will be near 35 degrees.

Wednesday and Thursday will be sunnier, and temps remain close to seasonable levels. Daytime highs will be in the upper 20s and low 30s. Nighttime and early morning lows will be in the teens and low 20s.
