Detroit weather: June 2016 cracks top 10 list of driest on record

DETROIT – Barring any unforeseen rain on Thursday, June 2016 will finish as the 10th driest June on record for the Detroit area. 

With 1.3 inches of rainfall this month, June 2016 takes the 10th spot on the driest Junes list by edging out June 2012, which saw 1.31 inches of rainfall, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).

June 1895 remains the driest on record for the Detroit area with 0.55 inches of rain.

Three of the top driest June months on record for the Detroit area are in the past 15 years: 2002, 2011 and now 2016. Conversely, the wettest June on record for the Detroit area is June 1892, which saw 8.31 inches of rain.
