Metro Detroit weather forecast: Calm before the warm, and the storm

A dangerous stretch of heat is less than 24 hours away.  A Heat Advisory has been posted for most of SE Michigan.

Tonight, humidity will be the first of a sweaty one-two punch to land on us.  That will keep lows in the upper 60s.  Skies will be mostly clear with a light south breeze.

Thursday, the humidity will continue to increase through the morning as the heat increases too.  By mid afternoon, high temperatures will hit the low 90s, but it will feel closer to 98.  The day and early evening will be dry, then we’ll start watching thunderstorms develop to our north and move through overnight.  It’s possible these storms could become severe.

Friday will be the hottest of our four-day stretch with highs in the mid 90s, and a heat index over 100 degrees.

Temperatures cool slightly Saturday and Sunday but only to the low 90s with heat indices still close to 100.  Thunderstorms return Sunday night into Monday as a cold front moves through.  But the relief will be slow to show up.  We won’t really feel the lower humidity until Tuesday.
