Metro Detroit weather forecast: Heat, humidity here to stay

Relief from heat arrives Sunday

DETROIT – Heat index readings hit 100 in spots Tuesday, and we'll feel similar heat and humidity Wednesday.

That means it will be another warm and uncomfortably humid night Tuesday. Lows will drop only to the low and mid-70s.

Humidity will be just as high, if not a touch higher Wednesday. Temperatures will top out around 90 degrees, which won’t break a record, but that’s about a dozen degrees above average.

Heat index readings will be 100 or higher by mid-afternoon. We'll be watching for a few scattered thunderstorms, but not everyone will see them.

Thursday will bring better chances of thunderstorms, and some of those could be strong. Highs will be a bit cooler, but with humidity still high, heat index readings will be above 90.

Temperatures will drop a bit for Friday and Saturday, with highs near 80. Humidity will be slightly lower, but still muggy, and that will give us enough instability to keep storm chances around for both days.

The real relief arrives Sunday. We’ll start in the 50s and finish in the 70s, all with much lower humidity and plenty of sunshine.
