Metro Detroit weather: Sunshine and calming winds

Temps in the upper teens and low 20s

DETROIT – Mother Nature is giving us a much deserved break today with sunshine and calming winds.

It’s a chilly start with temps in the upper teens and low 20s ‘feeling like’ the lower teens as you head out this morning. Sunshine will try to bring a few neighborhoods near 40 degrees this afternoon, but most of us will stop in the upper 30s with winds WSW 6-13 mph. Wet weather is on the way for St. Patrick’s Day, Friday.

Temperatures will be the BIG variable on Friday with a wintry mix moving in by late morning. This will likely start as snow and model data suggests a quick inch or two coming down across Metro Detroit through midday and then changing to rain or a rain/snow mix. Again, model data suggests highs near 40 degrees but that will be a struggle and with overcast skies and showers, it will have a cool, dull feel. The wet weather will hold off until after the Friday morning drive and will likely be a nuisance for the evening drive tomorrow as either rain or that mix.

Saturday may start a little wet with that mix or light snow and then breezy and drying out through the afternoon. Highs should climb into the low 40s with winds W 10-20 mph. Sunday is the better weekend day with temps trying to boost into the mid to maybe upper 40s with sunshine and lighter winds.  It will be warm enough for mainly rain on Monday as we head back to work and back to school… stay tuned.
