Metro Detroit Weather: Damp, chilly Friday with brighter weekend ahead

Overnight lows in the mid, upper 30s

DETROIT – Think warm thoughts!

The Detroit Tigers' home opener is right around the corner, and brighter weather is on the way for our weekend after more chilly, damp conditions Friday night.

Before midnight Friday, it will remain misty and soggy across Detroit and Southeast Michigan. Use caution while driving to dinner or other activities.

Factor in extra travel time and always find alternate routes when coming across standing water.

Fortunately, it gets drier overnight and temps stay above freezing. Jackets will still be needed because it will be chilly. Lows will be in the middle and upper 30s.

Clouds slowly break apart Saturday. The morning will be mostly cloudy. Saturday afternoon will be partly sunny. Any sunshine will lift our temps closer to 50 degrees; even low 50s, which is seasonable. It will be great weather for afternoon Little League games or activities, including nature exploring and spring cleaning.

Sunday will be mostly sunny and milder. Highs will be in the middle and upper 50s. It should be perfect weather for an afternoon run or bike ride for avid cyclists getting back into the swing of things.

Enjoy the dry weather while you can. Rain returns Monday, and highs will be in the low and mid 50s.

Tuesday through Thursday will see on-and-off showers. Tuesday may be drier in the afternoon, but keepan umbrella and rain boots at-the-ready for the middle of next week.

The Detroit Tigers host the Boston Red Sox at Comerica Park for the 1:10 p.m. ET home opener Friday. There's a good chance of the game starting on time. It will be chilly with temps in the upper 40s and low 50s. Pick out your favorite Tigers jacket, sweatshirt, hat and gloves.
