Metro Detroit weather: Chance of showers as heat prepares to crank up

Chance of showers Friday night

DETROIT – We’re turning the heat to broil, and not just for the weekend.

The 4 Live Radar has been tracking a few showers, mainly south of Detroit. We should see a few more pop up, with possibly some thunder and lightning. No severe weather is expected, and any raindrops should be gone shortly after sunset Friday. Clouds will break up overnight as temperatures fall to near 60 degrees.

The heat will become noticeable Saturday. Sunshine returns too. Highs will hit the mid- and upper 80s in the afternoon, but humidity will stay low. Expect breezy conditions with a southwest wind at 10-20 mph.

Sunday looks to be our first 90-degree day of the year. Skies should remain mostly sunny. Right now it looks like any showers or storms that pop up should stay up north of Detroit, closer to a cold front. Also, humidity will rise to muggy levels late Sunday.

The heat and humidity aren’t ready to leave when we go back to work Monday. Expect mostly sunny skies again with highs in the low 90s. In fact, there won’t be a noticeable change in temperatures until possibly next weekend. All the sweaty numbers are in our 10-day forecast.
