Morning showers across SE Michigan
DETROIT – Summer heat and humidity are making a brief return and it will likely lead to a little bit of trouble.
A warm front moving in will bring rain and thundershowers this morning mainly between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. with a few heavy downpours, some lightning, and gusty winds. Then hot, steamy, and partly sunny with a few neighborhoods reaching highs near 90 degrees! It will feel even warmer with humidity on the rise ushered in by winds SW 10-20 mph gusting stronger at times.
A few spotty showers and storms mid afternoon during the peak heating and again, these storms could bring damaging winds and small hail. But most of Metro Detroit is under a weak or Marginal Risk for severe weather both this morning and mid afternoon. Conditions improve through the evening, but pockets of heavy rain are moving in from the south overnight.
Areas of heavy rain Friday morning will make tomorrow’s commute slippery and slow, and those showers will linger through lunch time. Skies stay mostly cloudy through the afternoon as highs briefly hit the low 80s before a cool front blows through and cools us nicely into the evening tomorrow. Winds are WSW 10-20 mph gusting over 20 mph at times. The start of GM River Days looks pretty good through the late afternoon and evening tomorrow.
Both weekend days ahead will stay in the mid 70s and there is a chance for showers both days. But, the showers don’t look very impressive on model data and Saturday should stay mostly dry with a hit or miss afternoon shower under partly cloudy skies. Sunday brings a better chance for showers but again it doesn’t look very heavy or widespread.
The Ford Fireworks Monday should be dry. Model data this morning removes rain chances, but we need to prepare for a few mid afternoon showers. Again, it looks good for the Big Show into the evening and night. Temps stay on the cooler side in the upper 60s to low 70s with a mix of sun and clouds.
