Metro Detroit weather: Cool weekend ahead after hot stretch

Cold front barrels through Southeast Michigan

DETROIT – After only four days, it seems like Mother Nature wants to fast forward through the rest of August.

A cold front has barreled through Southeast Michigan, leaving gusty winds, lower humidity and cooler air behind. Temperatures are already on their way down from midday highs. They'll continue dropping into the 50s Friday night. Our 4ZONE Forecast page has a breakdown of those crisp numbers.

Our weekend looks mainly dry. We'll see a mix of sun and clouds on Saturday. Highs will reach the mid-70s with low humidity and lower wind speeds. A stray, light sprinkle is technically possible in the late afternoon, but the overwhelming majority of us won't see it.

Sunday will start dry with more cloud cover. Expect some scattered showers in the afternoon. Highs again will reach the mid-70s.

Showers will be around in spots on Monday. Temperatures won't feel much different, heading right back to the mid-70s for highs. This is our most likely shot at rain in the forecast.

Temperatures will return to the 80s on Tuesday and stay close to normal for most of the week. We'll get more sunshine than clouds with just a slight chance of a shower on Thursday or Friday.
