Metro Detroit weather forecast: Cold front brings Friday morning, midday showers

Highs in the 70s

DETROIT – Detroit receives additional provisions of water in the form of showers and thunderstorms Friday; primarily in the morning and middle of the day. A cold front brings drier, cooler air before the day is done and for Saturday.

Friday morning will be cloudy warm with lingering humidity and scattered showers. Some downpours will be light, and others will be heavy. So, drivers must be careful on wet roads, especially when encountering them for the for the first time. Temps start in the middle and upper 60s with haze and patchy fog.

The cold front approaches and crosses Detroit and Southeast Michigan by early Friday afternoon. Therefore, more widespread showers and storms arrive from the end of morning rush hour to lunchtime. Rain will be heavy at times with some thunder and lightning. The highest temps of the day will occur at this time with thermometer readings in the mid to upper 70s.

Friday afternoon becomes drier with temps stabilizing and falling from the mid, upper 70s to the low 70s during the ride home from work and summer camp. Some sun will break out from time to time, too.

 

Friday evening will be partly to mostly cloudy, and you can feel the drop in humidity. Temps will be in the upper, then middle 60s.

Friday night will be cooler and clearer after midnight. Overnight lows will be in the middle and upper 50s. Great for sleeping with the windows up. Residents can air out their homes.

Saturday will be mostly sunny and cooler. It will be warm, though, with highs in the middle and upper 70s.

Sunday will become partly sunny. Highs will be in the middle and upper 70s, again, and scattered afternoon and evening showers are possible.

A chance of showers remains Monday with mostly cloudy skies. Highs will be in the middle and upper 70s; 5 to 10 degrees below average.

Tuesday and the middle of next week will be more summer-like with sunnier skies and highs returning to 80 degrees or more.
