Friday evening will go from mostly cloudy to partly cloudy as temps fall from the low 70s through the 60s. Fitting that it feels like fall with preseason football taking place. The Detroit Lions host the latest Super Bowl champion New England Patriots at Ford Field. Kickoff is at 7pm ET.

Friday night will become clear and chilly. Overnight lows will be in the low 50s in Motown with 40s in many surrounding neighborhoods. An extra blanket or heaters may be needed.

Saturday will be mostly sunny and milder. Great car-wash-weather with highs near 75 degrees. The wind will be light and blowing from the east at 4 to 9 mph. Great conditions for Hydrofest at and around Belle Isle.

Great weather for hydroplane racing Sunday, too. It will be mostly sunny and warmer with highs in the upper 70s. Great weather going to and from services and other activities.

The next frontal system brings a chance of scattered showers Monday and Tuesday. Highs will be near 80 degrees Monday and back near 75 degrees Tuesday.

Sunshine dominates the rest of next week's forecast with partly to mostly sunny skies. Wednesday's daytime temps will be in the mid 70s. Highs will be closer to 80 degrees Thursday and Friday.

Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey will make landfall in Southeast Texas Friday night and it will be devastating. Maximum sustained winds will be over 130 mph. An immense overabundance of water will be a significant problem for days, even weeks. Storm surge is over 6 feet. Rainfall will be measured in feet, not inches. Many models have rain totals nearing 3 feet by next Wednesday. Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana will become the Gulf of Mexico.
