Metro Detroit weather forecast: Rain, thundershowers this afternoon

DETROITRain showers are moving in today with spotty showers around Metro Detroit this morning, and more widespread rain and thundershowers as we head into the afternoon hours.

Morning temps in the upper 50s to low and mid 60s will only warm into the low 70s late morning and early afternoon depending on the rain timing. Rain cooled air will keep us mainly in the upper 60s this afternoon, getting back into the low 70s during rain breaks. The showers will produce a quarter to a half an inch of rain with a few spots getting a little bit more than that.

The winds ESE 5-10 mph will try to keep dry air around during the morning drive eating away some of these showers coming at us from the southwest. Be prepared for the showers slowing you down in isolated spots this morning, and a certain tricky evening drive.

Tuesday forecast

More showers Tuesday through the early afternoon before we start to shut things down and dry things off. Again, temps in the low 60s early to the low 70s in the afternoon. If we can sneak a little bit of sun through the mid and late afternoon, we may see a few areas in SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario into the mid 70s. The winds are still light SE 5-10 mph.

Wednesday forecast

We will see a nice stretch of weather Wednesday through Saturday keeping things on the dry side. Skies will be mostly sunny Wednesday with highs near 80 degrees! A cool front Thursday will not bring any crazy weather, but it will keep temps on the cooler side of normal or average.

Highs in the low 70s Thursday and struggling to get to 70 degrees Friday. Remnant moisture from former Hurricane Harvey will move in Sunday morning, teamed up with another system and this could bring some steady, heavy rain. The good news is that it will clear up for Labor Day as highs get closer to 80 degrees again.
