Metro Detroit weather: Chance of light rain as temperatures cool

Scattered showers possible overnight

DETROIT – We are woefully short on rain, so anything that shows up Thursday night will be great. But the problem is it won't be much.

Scattered showers will develop late Thursday night, mainly after midnight. Temperatures, again, are headed to the 40s with the city holding onto 50 degrees.

Some showers will linger through the morning hours on Friday. We'll be dry through the middle of the day, before getting a few light widely scattered sprinkles in the afternoon. Highs will rise only to the mid-60s. Also, expect breezy conditions to give a definite fall bite to the afternoon.

Total rainfall totals should be around a tenth of an inch, so that will only bring our monthly total near the 1-inch mark. Normal values are three times that number.

We'll stay on the cool side of normal for the weekend with mostly sunny skies. But another strong ridge of high pressure will build next week, bringing temperatures well above normal. We will likely see some mid-80s by midweek. All the numbers are in our 10-day forecast.
