Tracking showers, storms ahead of the weekend in Metro Detroit -- Here’s what you can expect

Friday and Saturday highs in lower 80s

DETROIT – The stage is set for what should be a very nice weekend; After that, more active weather returns in the form of showers and storms and hotter temperatures.

Skies will be mainly clear overnight, and with the drier air in place, temperatures will drop into the 50s and lower 60s. Those in the metro zone will be in the lower 60s while most everyone else will dip into the upper 50s.

Weekend forecast

Friday features more sunshine and pleasant temperatures. We top out in the lower 80s in the afternoon. High-resolution models squeeze out an isolated shower or two in the afternoon, but these are few and far between, and the chances are not great. Most, if not all, should stay dry. The weekend looks great with lots of sunshine and highs in the lower to middle 80s. But next week changes return.

Next week

Shower and storm chances return on Monday. While it’s a little too far out to get into the specifics, it’s safe to say it’ll be more impactful weather. A shower may even linger into Tuesday morning.

The heat that returns will be the big story of next week. We’re near 90 by Wednesday and closer to the middle 90s on Thursday. Following that, long-range models are split a bit as to where we go. Some are giving us triple-digit heat, while others keep us toasty in the 90s. There is still some doing to be done, but safe to say the second half of next week will be hot.
