After some sunshine throughout the day on Thursday, clouds are increasing, and we will bring rain showers into the forecast, looking ahead to the end of the week on Friday.
Mostly cloudy skies can be expected into the start of the overnight, and rain showers will develop before sunrise on Friday morning.
Overnight lows are dropping to around 40° as you wake up on Friday morning.
Once the first round of rain showers moves out to start the day on Friday, we will hold onto a few showers into the afternoon and early evening, before we start to clear things out a little bit by Friday night.
Partly to mostly cloudy skies can be expected by Friday night.
It will be another chilly night with overnight lows dropping into the upper 30s for everybody.
Weekend forecast
The forecast gets a little tricky as we head into the weekend, our next system moves into the region Saturday night through Sunday, and into the start of next week on Monday.
We will bring a chance of rain showers late Saturday night into early Sunday morning, then colder air starts to move into the region as an area of low pressure works south of Metro Detroit.
This will bring a chance of rain and snow showers for most of the region, but the further north and west you go for Metro Detroit, the colder air will hang on, and snow showers will be the primary rule through a good chunk of the day on Sunday.
This does look like our first shot of accumulating snow by the end of the weekend and in the early next week.
Next week
We only need 1/10 of an inch of snow to qualify as our first accumulating snow, and I anticipate that, especially by Monday.
Any rain and snow showers will switch completely over to snow showers for everybody late Sunday night and continue until Monday.
Thanks to a northwest flow kicking in.
This is our traditional lake-effect snow shower event, but it’s also going to bring in a reinforcing shot of colder air by the start of next week.
High temperatures are on Saturday in the mid to upper 40s, will drop into the upper 30s by Sunday, and continue to fall into the mid 30s by the start of next week on Monday.
We will keep some cloud cover in the forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, with warmer temperatures starting to move into the region. High temperatures rebounding to right around 40° by Tuesday, then into the upper 40s by Wednesday.
