Arctic Blast headed our way

Polar Vortex on way to Michigan, too

DETROIT – Alright everybody, the bottom line is to get set for what now appears to be two consecutive weeks of very cold weather.

Here's what you need to know:

After some light snow or snow showers across part of the area Friday night, Saturday will feature clouds with a peek of sun. Highs near 20.

The Alberta Clipper I've been talking about for the past few days now appears to be passing barely south and west of our area. Those of you near the state line could potentially see a bit of very light snow late Saturday afternoon into Saturday night, but I don't expect much, if any, accumulation.

Sunday could be our last day with anything near average temps for a while, with highs in the mid to upper 20s, although it's going to be a windy day. A few light snow showers are possible, but nothing to worry about.

The next Arctic Blast arrives on Monday, with some snow showers possible, and temperatures not rising much from the morning low temp -- perhaps just touching 20 if we're lucky.

Tuesday through Thursday will be bitterly cold, with highs in the low to mid teens, and overnight lows near zero, and possibly below zero in rural areas. By Friday, we could get back to near 20 for a high.

As I mentioned on Thursday, things then take a turn for the worse. My long range computer models continue to show the possibility of that Polar Vortex (big drop south of the jet stream that we heard so much about last week) dropping south again the week after next. It's too early to say if we'll see the same extreme cold that we just came out of, but we may not be that far off the mark.

The bottom line is to get ready for what looks like two straight weeks of very cold weather.
