Bright, sunshiny Thursday afternoon on tap

DETROIT - The way temps are climbing midday, we could very likely see 80 degrees this Thursday afternoon. Areas north of 8 Mile may only hit the upper 70s, but many of your neighborhoods will be warmer with plenty of sunshine. Don't forget the sunscreen to apply and reapply because it is an ideal day for the pool or lake. The focus of this forecast is an increase in temperatures, humidity, and the chances for storms this weekend.

Friday is the first day of Summer 2013 and we will be mostly sunny to partly cloudy with highs in the low to mid 80s. You will start feeling the muggy air coming in with SW winds 7-12 mph. There will be some strong thunderstorms across Lake Michigan that we will watch closely. But, there is only a slight chance for a few isolated showers with the heat of the afternoon on Friday. Most of the rain will be across western and northern parts of Lower Michigan.

Saturday and Sunday both show signs of reaching near 90 degrees. It will be a humid weekend with highs 85 to 90 degrees both days with scattered showers and storms. Storm clouds can form quickly in this unstable weather environment. Right now, we are not under any risks for severe weather. That certainly could change but we want you to keep all of your outdoor plans as only about 30% of our viewing area will see rain and thundershowers this weekend. Just be prepared for a possible brief delay in your plans.
