DETROIT – 
Temperatures are expected to climb to uncomfortably hot levels throughout the day Thursday in Metro Detroit and southeastern Michigan.
Several heat advisories already have been issued in anticipation for the hot day. Counties including Wayne, Washtenaw, Lenawee and Monroe were issued the heat advisories Wednesday evening.

The National Weather Service also has issued air quality alerts for the counties named and several others in the area.

The Local 4Casters expect Thursday to be mostly sunny and very hot. High temperatures will flirt with 100 degrees.
There is a chance for some scattered thunderstorms as a weak cold front moves in Thursday evening.

The heat advisories will be in effect from noon to 9 p.m. Thursday. The NWS defines a heat advisory as a period of expected hot temperature. The combination of the high temps and high humidity can create a possibility for heat-related illnesses.
The NWS advises to stay out of the sun and to drink plenty of water. Children and pets should not be left unattended in high-heat situations.
The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality declared Thursday an action day for elevated levels of ozone. It has issued air quality alerts urging businesses and homeowners to avoid activities which lead to ozone formation. Activities such as mowing the lawn should be avoided in Metro Detroit communities which have received the air quality alerts.
