ADELANTO, Calif. - An impressive dust devil was captured on video in California.
A couple in Adelanto, northeast of Los Angeles, filmed the massive column as it swirled around a road.
Dust devils are common in the Southwest (although there was one spotted in Brooklyn in 2014) and are similar to small tornadoes in appearance. The only difference is that dust devils can happen on sunny days, and they pick up dirt and dust, making for a unique sight.
Scientific American has a good explainer on how and why dust devils form.
As for the one in this video, it was only on the ground for a few minutes before dissipating.
