Metro Detroit snow forecast: More snow expected Wednesday

Winter Weather Advisory has expired

DETROIT – Some impressive snow totals around Metro Detroit late Monday and early Tuesday morning with some areas getting a total of 3-5 inches from two waves of the white stuff.

Our Winter Weather Advisory has expired but the roads are still snow covered in your neighborhoods, and very slick on the highways. Be careful!

Drop in temps

We’ll see a dramatic drop in temps today falling through the 20s and settling in the teens this afternoon with gusty winds. Wind chills are in the single digits all day as the winds crank NW 15-25 mph gusting 30-40 mph at times.

Those winds will bring occasional lake effect snow showers Tuesday around Metro Detroit with little accumulation, but we always need to be mindful of a few dangerous snow squalls.

Wednesday forecast

We will likely see single digit lows Wednesday morning in the suburbs with low teens toward the city of Detroit with icy spots on the roads. It’s a struggle to warm up tomorrow with highs in the mid 20s and lighter winds.

2-3 more inches of snow

Still, wind chills will be in the teens and snow showers will be moving in by the afternoon. This is another clipper system that will move through quickly and drop a couple 2-3 inches of fresh snow across SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario. The snow will be an afternoon and early evening event which will make for a messy late commute again.

Thursday forecast

We’ll see a few peeks of sun Thursday but it’s another cold one! Look for sun and clouds with highs hanging in the low 20s with light winds and an occasional lake effect flurry or light snow shower.

Get ready for another snow maker Friday afternoon and we’ll keep you posted as new data on accumulation comes in. The weekend looks a little warmer in the low to maybe mid 30s. Track temperatures tumbling and our next snow chances with our Local4Casters app.
