Metro Detroit weather: Chance of showers Friday followed by heat rush

Temperatures reach 90 degrees this weekend

DETROIT – Even plenty of sunshine couldn't get temperatures to normal levels Thursday, but we'll have no problem with that by the weekend.

On Thursday night, skies will be partly cloudy with seasonably cool lows in the mid- to upper 50s.

Friday will be a typical early June day, with highs heading to the upper 70s. We'll have a few showers and thunderstorms, mainly in the afternoon and early evening. There might be a smaller batch that will push through midday.

The heat will arrive on Saturday. Temperatures will spike into the mid-80s with mostly sunny skies. Humidity will remain low and stay that way until Sunday afternoon.

We should touch 90 degrees on Sunday for the first time this year. Heat indices will be a couple degrees above the air temperature.

More 90s are in store for Monday and Tuesday, with heat index readings in the mid-90s. Both days will be dry and sun-filled.In fact, our next chance at rain won’t arrive until Wednesday, so our lush landscapes might lose some color through this weekend’s heat wave.

Temperatures will technically drop after that, but it will be tough tell much of a difference. Check out the 10-day forecast for all the numbers.
