Metro Detroit weather: Chilly start with sunshine later

By Brandon Roux - Meteorologist, Segment Reporter/Producer

A cool to border line chilly start around Metro Detroit as morning lows have dipped into the 20s and low 30s. Wind chills are mainly in the 20s so you may need an extra layer this morning.

Sunshine will help us warm to near 50 degrees or a bit warmer this afternoon. Cool breezes NE 5-12 mph make east siders cooler again and more lake enhanced clouds for our North Zone possible. High clouds stream in mid to late afternoon ahead of a weather change coming tomorrow.

Thursday is very tricky for timing and precipitation types. We may see a mid morning band of moisture moving into areas north of M 59 and it could be a bit of a wintry mix as low temps will be in the 30s. If a band of snow sets up… we could see a dusting in areas north of I-69 through the morning. We do believe most of the wet weather will get going around 2pm tomorrow and will be rain for most of Metro Detroit Thursday afternoon and evening. Temperatures will be in the low to mid 40s with a drying wind ENE 7-17 mph which again may fend off the morning chance for moisture.

A few pockets of heavy rain late Thursday and overnight into Friday morning which could make the commute soaking and slippery. Rain showers linger Friday morning and there is more and more data showing showers still active on and off throughout the day Friday. If we can start drying out into the afternoon, temps will respond heading back into the 50s. We should see 50s all weekend with partly sunny skies Saturday and mostly sunny skies Sunday.
