Metro Detroit weather: Fall weather returns behind cold front

Cold front moves through Thursday night

DETROIT – October is waiting impatiently to return.

It will arrive behind a cold front that’s moving through Tuesday night. Overnight lows will drop to the upper 40s and low 50s. Winds will relax behind the front as well.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny and still above average but only near 70 by afternoon. Expect more clouds late than early.

On Thursday, a wave of low pressure will be just to our southeast, but close enough to get us wet, especially in the Metro and South zones. We’ll start the day around 50 degrees and rise only to the upper 50s by afternoon.

A shower is possible Friday, but it’s an outside shot. Otherwise, expect plenty of clouds and highs below normal, in the low 50s.

Friday night will be the coldest point in this week's forecast, with another frosty finish. Temperatures will be in the 30s area-wide. From there, we’ll make a slow trek back to normal through the weekend.
