Metro Detroit weather forecast: Chilly start with more snow on the way

DETROIT – A chilly start which will lead to some refreezing on the roads around Metro Detroit to start your Friday under mostly cloudy skies.

More snow on the way today and pesky breezes making it feel much cooler through the late morning and afternoon.

Morning wind chills are in the single digits and the afternoon highs will get into the upper 20s to near 30 degrees. But, those breezes SW 10-20 mph will keep wind chills in the single digits and low teens.

There's a chance for some dangerous snow squalls this afternoon and evening.

Band of snow

And, it looks like a band of snow will swing through the area late tonight and early overnight but snow totals are likely less than an inch for most of us. Our North Zone may see an inch or more throughout the day and evening.

Weekend forecast

It will be a little warmer this weekend, but Saturday does start with 20s and scattered snow showers through lunchtime. The afternoon stays mostly cloudy with a few flakes and flurries but mostly dry. So early tailgating for the Lion’s Game will see some light snow showers but it becomes less and less through the afternoon. Highs tomorrow in SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario will get into the low 30s or slightly warmer under mostly cloudy skies and winds N 5-10 mph.

Sunday will be the warmer weekend day under still cloudy skies. Some model data suggests 40 degrees, but that will be a struggle given our snowpack -- so we likely settle in the upper 30s with a slight chance for a little light snow or a wintry mix by evening or later into Monday.

Temps are warmer next week with a few rounds of wet weather including Monday night into Tuesday which looks like light snow possibly changing to a wintry mix through the first half of Tuesday.
