Metro Detroit weather forecast: Finally…some good news

Rain continued across most of the area today but, as you can see in the radar image, there was a very sharp cutoff between soaking rain and nothing.  For example, while Pontiac had rain all day, Howell had nothing!

The news is improving, as rain in the area should dramatically diminish this evening.  In fact, we could even see partial clearing later tonight.  Lows near 40 degrees (4-5 degrees Celsius).  Northwest wind at 10-20 mph.

It’s possible (even plausible) that we’ll start our Saturday with some sunshine, but the departing storm system will throw one last bit of moisture westward at us, which will likely increase our afternoon cloud cover.  The models are now keeping any rain showers to our east but, if any manage to make it far enough westward, the greatest risk would be on our east side.  Highs in the mid 50s (13 degrees Celsius) will be tempered by a breezy northwest wind at 10-20 mph.

Saturday’s sunrise is at 6:22 a.m., and Saturday’s sunset is at 8:38 p.m.

Becoming mostly clear Saturday night, with lows in the upper 30s (4 degrees Celsius).

Mostly sunny on Sunday, with highs in the mid 50s (13 degrees Celsius).  That’s great news for the Multiple Sclerosis Walk at Comerica Park Sunday morning, and also for the Le Chocolat half marathon / 10K and 5K in Windsor!  Yes, it’ll be a chilly start, but sunshine should take that bite out of the air as soon as the sun gets high enough in the sky.

Mostly clear Sunday night, with lows dropping into the mid 30s (1-2 degrees Celsius).  IF the winds lighten up enough Sunday night, then there may be a frost risk in our coldest locations…you know who you are.  Keep in mind that hardy spring flowers such as tulips, pansies, etc. will be just fine.  Only tender annuals (which you shouldn’t have planted yet), and fruit tree blossoms are at serious risk.

Mostly sunny on Monday, with highs in the upper 50s (15 degrees Celsius).

Mostly clear Monday night, with lows in the mid 30s (2 degrees Celsius).

Mostly sunny on Tuesday…perhaps becoming partly cloudy by late afternoon.  Highs in the low 60s (16 degrees Celsius).

The rest of the week looks mainly dry, although sunshine may be limited.  Skies should average mostly cloudy, with highs generally in the low to mid 60s (16-17 degrees Celsius).
