Metro Detroit weather forecast: Mix of sun, clouds on Friday

Highs near 70

DETROIT – A cool, cloudy, and foggy start to your Friday around Metro Detroit with temps in the low and mid 50s as you head out.

The fog will begin to lift after 8 or 9 a.m. and we will be waiting for the sun to return. Clouds give way to partly sunny skies after lunch and then a mix of sun and clouds through the mid and late afternoon as highs will quickly respond ending up near 70 degrees this afternoon with light winds SSW 5-10 mph.

Saturday is still very challenging with a line of showers and storms entering the state through the morning and afternoon. Right now, models show these pre-cold front showers lining up just to our west and north. This means parts of our West Zone in Livingston County up through the Thumb Region stand the best chance for rain and thundershowers through the day. Partly sunny skies closer to Detroit as highs hit the low and mid 70s with increasing shower chances into the evening and overnight as that front slowly starts to slide south approaching Metro Detroit.

We do have some problems for Sunday, especially for those running in the Marathon in Detroit. The aforementioned line of showers and storms will pull through mid morning with a few scattered rain and thundershowers. Model data shows the line starting to break apart which is great news for runners, but you need to prepare for some activity between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Then, the winds will begin to howl blowing SW 15-30 mph with stronger gusts.

Shower chances through midday and then becoming mostly sunny and breezy as temps in the mid and upper 60s cool down through the afternoon.  A much cooler and brighter pattern next week with lows in the 40s and highs only in the 60s.
