Metro Detroit weather forecast: Monitoring multiple severe storm threats

Isolated thunderstorms this afternoon will miss most of us, but those of you fortunate enough to be under one will get a much-needed soaking rain.

After a break later this afternoon, a line of severe storms will move into western Michigan early this evening.  As the storms progress eastward toward us, there will be a weakening trend.  The only question is:  will those storms weaken enough before they move into our area?  This afternoon’s models suggest yes, so that puts the highest risk to get a marginally severe storm in our far western suburbs – west of US-23.  It would be nice if we can get a solid line of “regular” thunderstorms this evening, but it appears that the activity will be scattered, so some of us (perhaps many of us) won’t get that downpour we want for our lawns and flowers.  By the way, for those of you going to the Tigers game tonight, I think most of the game will be dry, but a thunderstorm cannot be ruled out…especially near the end of the game.  Keep an eye on things with the customizable radar page on the FREE Local4Casters app…available in the app store by searching under WDIV.  Lows tonight in the upper 60s (20 degrees Celsius).  This evening’s sunset is at 9:11 p.m.

Thursday should start out dry, but scattered thunderstorms will pop up during the afternoon.  There is a small risk that a few of those could become severe so, once again, stay alert.  Highs in the mid to upper 80s (30-31 degrees Celsius).

Thursday’s sunrise is at 5:56 a.m., and Thursday’s sunset is at 9:12 p.m.

Partly cloudy Thursday night, with lows in the mid 60s (19 degrees Celsius).

Partly cloudy on Friday, with a few thunderstorms possible mid-to-late afternoon.  Highs near 90 degrees (32 degrees Celsius).

Partly cloudy Friday night, with lows near 70 degrees (21 degrees Celsius).

The Weekend:

As I mentioned yesterday, I know that a lot of people are having graduation parties this weekend (I’m going to one on Saturday), not to mention all of the other outdoor activities that the rest of us want to do.  However, the computer models continue to be in great disagreement about the timing of our thunderstorm chances, especially on Saturday.  At this point, I still cannot pin down the timing, so you just have to prepare for a thunderstorm chance occurring at least part of the day on Saturday.  It’ll be continued hot and humid, with highs near 90 degrees (32 degrees Celsius).

Thunderstorm chances continue Saturday night, with lows in the low 70s (22 degrees Celsius).

And we still have a chance of thunderstorms on Father’s Day, with highs in the mid 80s (30 degrees Celsius).  Although it’s still very difficult to determine, it appears that the storm timing could be morning into the early afternoon.  But this is VERY preliminary.  I hope to have more details about the weekend thunderstorm timing tomorrow…so check out my weather article then.

The Cooldown:

One thing I remain confident about is the cooldown coming our way.  Monday should be partly to mostly cloudy, with a few afternoon showers possible.  Highs in the mid to upper 70s (25 degrees Celsius).

Partly cloudy Monday night, with lows in the upper 50s (14-15 degrees Celsius).

Partly cloudy on Tuesday, with highs in the upper 70s (26 degrees Celsius).

Temperatures the rest of the week should hold pretty close to average…around 80 degrees (27 degrees Celsius).
