Metro Detroit weather: Light snow, freezing drizzle Monday morning

Winter storm watch starts Monday night

DETROIT – It's a slippery start to your Monday with just a little bit of light snow and some freezing drizzle possible through the early morning drive.

Most of the snow from Sunday has moved east and with temps in the low 20s, it's icy on many streets and will take you a little longer to get around.

Morning wind chills are in the low to mid teens and highs today will get into the low 30s this afternoon under cloudy skies and winds ENE 5-10 mph.

More wet weather is coming in tonight and this will be a significant wintry mix.

Winter storm watch

We are all under a winter storm watch starting at midnight tonight and going all the way through Wednesday morning. The threat is for dangerous conditions from freezing rain and sleet to accumulating snow.

Starting early Tuesday, we will have snow and sleet switching to freezing rain, especially south of M-59. Areas north of M-59 should get a little more snow than freezing rain and snow totals could add up and mix with some sleet and freezing rain.

Most of Metro Detroit will have more freezing rain taking hold and some areas could get a quarter of an inch of ice or more early tomorrow. The wet weather will come and go all day with temps climbing to near 40 degrees, many of us will see a switch to rain which will melt the ice quickly. Many areas north of M 59 and I-69 will keep seeing snow adding up and could see upwards of 6 inches of snow and very dangerous travel from ice, snow, and blowing snow as the winds pick up too SE/SW 7-17 mph gusting to 25 mph.

Snow Tuesday night

We will likely see more freezing rain and sleet mixing with snow Tuesday night through Wednesday morning and the best scenario would be a couple of inches of new snow Tuesday late into early Wednesday.

But, there is no guarantee as the wintry mix will be a threat for the next two days. Cooler temps Wednesday falling into the 20s to low 30s and windy. We may see some light snow accumulations by early Wednesday -- stay tuned!
