Metro Detroit weather: Sizzling Friday with chance for afternoon storms

DETROITHappy Friday! And, it’s going to be another summer sizzler which is a great way to head into the weekend around Metro Detroit.

With plenty of sun and increasing humidity throughout the day, highs will be near 90 degrees feeling like low to mid 90s and there is another Air Quality Alert today. The heat, humidity, and intense sun will be a double threat today with heat stress, and difficulty breathing for those with respiratory and heart conditions.

Few storms possible Friday afternoon

Take it easy! We may see a few storms flare up with the afternoon heat, but it’s been a swing and a miss for most of us the last couple of days, so we don’t expect much. Still, keep an eye to the sky mid afternoon. The winds will be from the north to start and then becoming SSE 5-10 mph. A batch of heavy rain overnight.

Rain, thunderstorms Saturday morning

A round of heavy rain and thundershowers will blow through SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario Saturday morning. There is a Slight Risk for severe weather Saturday from not only the morning storms between 2am and 8am, but also for storm potential through the day as we warm up and feel a surge in humidity into the afternoon tomorrow. We don’t expect a washout, but it will be tricky outdoors on and off all day tomorrow. Again, highs well into the mid 80s and very steamy.

Sunday forecast

A few morning showers early Sunday, and then we will start to calm down. Not only are rain chances going away, but the humidity will be dropping. We will be in the low and mid 80s to end the weekend with very pleasant air moving in for next week. We should be only in the upper 70s with sun Monday and Tuesday and then back into the 80s by Wednesday with very little wet weather next week.
