Metro Detroit weather: A beautiful fall day with sunshine

DETROIT – Well, finally!  It took a while to clear those clouds but Metro Detroit temperatures will respond nicely to more and more sunshine coming your way. We were stuck in the 50s under clouds but a midday surge will take us into the 60s, and we should all end up in the neighborhood of 70°F.

With mostly sunny skies, and a warming wind SW 5-15 mph gusting 10-20 mph this afternoon, we will conditions similar to yesterday afternoon and that is all good!  It's a bit of a boring, broken record forecast for the next four days or so.

The best recipe for great Fall foliage comes from cool overnights, and sunshiny days and that's exactly what we have on tap.

Tuesday forecast

Morning lows Tuesday will be in the 40s before sunrise around 7:38am which means some suburbs west and north of Detroit will be flirting with the upper 30s under mostly clear skies.

We will have a ton of sun through lunchtime, and then a few midday clouds, followed by more midafternoon sunshine settling back in.

The winds are lighter and the air will be only slightly cooler, so highs will be in the upper 60s with winds ESE 5-10 mph. A few of you may hit 70°F tomorrow while most of us fall just short.

Wednesday forecast

Wednesday looks gorgeous around Metro Detroit as our classic Fall stretch continues with cool 40s in the morning, and 60s to near 70°F with wall to wall sunshine.

Thursday forecast

Thursday will be another glorious dry and sunny Fall day here in SE Lower Michigan and Southern Ontario. We should get into the low 70s Thursday, and possibly again on Friday. But, that will be dependent upon Friday clouds and rain chances.

Friday, weekend forecast

We start your Finally Friday with sunshine and a good chance for midday clouds ahead of the rain, and that may keep temps in the 60s instead. We may have rain for Friday night football games, be we will track it closely all week and keep you informed.

Right now, it looks like rain late Friday into the start of Saturday without a weekend washout. It will be noticeably cooler this weekend as highs hang in the 50s both days with more sun Sunday than Saturday.
