Saturdayy forecast

DETROIT - Saturday morning will have a healthy amount of clouds over Detroit and Southeast Michigan. This blanket of clouds will keep temperatures in the 20s to near 30 degrees, which is not as low as previous mornings this week. Shoppers will need to bundle up and remain alert to any isolated ice patches on streets, sidewalks and parking lots.

Tailgaters for the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry will need to grab their favorite maize and blue hat, scarf, gloves and coat and stay extra close to the grill to stay warm before the big game at Michigan Stadium. Same for MSU fans going to East Lansing for the Spartans-Golden Gophers game. Both football games begin with a 12 noon kickoff.

Saturday afternoon will be chilly, but temps approach seasonable levels. Detroit's average high is 42 degrees. High temps today reach the lower 40s with partly to mostly sunny skies and a south wind 4 to 9 mph. It will be much more comfortable for residents or visitors who want to ice skate at The Rink in Campus Martius.

A disturbance cutting through Michigan's Upper Peninsula  and the Northern Lower Peninsula in the afternoon will get closer to Southeast Michigan Saturday evening and overnight. This will bring cloudy skies back to Motor City area with flurries and scattered snow showers Saturday night and Sunday.

Gray skies Sunday will keep afternoon temps in the middle 30s. Flurries and light snow will make travel tricky for motorists for any end-of-holiday driving. It will be a good idea for flyers to call their airlines to make sure flights are on-time. Many snow accumulations will be less than an inch.

When students go back to school Monday, partly sunny skies return after morning flurries. It will be chilly with highs in the upper 30s. Temperatures rise to more seasonable territory, near 40 degrees, Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday night will have rain and snow showers that turn to snow showers Thursday.
