DETROIT - Before getting into the forecast, I want to share with you some very exciting news about a new Local 4 weather exclusive that will engage you with our weather like never before.
It's revolutionary, and is truly the next generation of weather communication between you viewers and us in the Local 4 weather office. It's called Storm Pins, and I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about this.
In a nutshell, here's how it works: once you download the Storm Pins app onto your smartphone (you'll easily find it in the app store…just search under WDIV), you register as a user, and then start using the app by dropping a pin (just by pushing a button), selecting an avatar to identify what kind of report you're making, snap a photo or 10 second video (hold your phone horizontally, or in the landscape position), and then add a comment if you want. This may sound like a lot but, after using it a couple of times, it's a piece of cake.
Most importantly, your photo / video and comment then show up instantly on the Storm Pins map…the pin you drop is automatically put in the exact location where you snapped the photo or video. We see it instantly here in the Local 4 weather office, and can put those photos and videos on the air.
Since we have a severe storm potential the next two days, I want you to download the app NOW and get familiar with it. You are our eyes and ears to confirm what we're seeing on radar. And by the way, don't forget that as a wave of severe storms crosses our area, YOU can see each other's pins and track the weather's impact as it happens.
We've posted a story about Storm Pins on the ClickOnDetroit where you can find more information. I look forward to seeing your reports this week, as we have a chance of storms each of the next six days.
Most of tonight should be quiet and dry. However, there is the chance for a few thunderstorms very late tonight...probably not until after 4:00 AM. Once those pass through by about 9:00 or 10:00 AM, we'll be partly cloudy, hot and humid for the balance of the day on Tuesday until thunderstorm chances slowly ramp up again by late afternoon into the evening hours.
The potential exists for the later period of storms to become severe, with large hail and damaging wind being the primary threats. Highs near 90. Wind becoming southwest at 10 to 20 mph.
A chance of showers and thunderstorms...severe storms are possible. Lows in the low 70s.
Wednesday brings another chance of showers and thunderstorms, with severe weather once again possible. Highs near 88.
The rest of the week, through Sunday, features a chance of showers and thunderstorms each day. Highs look to be in the 80s, with muggy overnight lows in the upper 60s to low 70s. We'll finally break out of this pattern with cooler and drier air next Monday, so get ready for an active week of weather.
