Severe weather possible Friday afternoon in SE Michigan

Damaging winds, large hail are main threats

DETROIT – Showers and storms were active early this morning and we may have a few storm cells prompting Storm Warnings for dangerous winds and lightning later this afternoon.

The mid morning through the early afternoon will be warm and steamy around Metro Detroit. Highs should get back into the mid 80s and if we get enough sunshine ... we may take a shot at 90 degrees. The humidity is high, and the air is very unstable.

Scattered afternoon storms

Scattered strong storms will form this afternoon ahead of a cold front and some of these storms will be dangerous. Eyes to the skies mid afternoon as storms again could produce damaging winds.

Much of Metro Detroit is under the Slight Risk category for severe weather, while some north of Pontiac have a lower chance of seeing severe storms.

Be careful and know that these afternoon storms may linger in spots into the early evening. Warming winds all day SW 5-15 mph will keep bringing the warm and muggy air in. Our best salvation will be extended cloud cover to keep the air a little more stable so, stay tuned!

Weekend forecast

The weekend looks great as temps and dew point temps or humidity is on the way down. Highs tomorrow only in the mid to upper 70s with skies becoming mostly sunny and winds WNW 7-12 mph.

We will have dry conditions most of Sunday as highs hit the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. There is a slight chance for a shower or two into the evening and overnight into early Monday.  Next week will include more shower and storm chances starting Monday afternoon. We have more wet weather moving in Tuesday and possibly Wednesday. You can track radar and stay ahead of the showers and storms with our Local4Casters app.
