Steamy 90s with storm chances in SE Michigan

DETROIT – The heat continues to pour in this week and it will lead to some stormy weather at times.

For most of us, it’s just the heat and humidity Monday with morning temps starting in the 70s and likely warming into the low 90s. Once you add the humidity, heat indices will be in the mid 90s and we will see more and more clouds forming with the peak heat of the afternoon with winds SW 8-18 mph gusting to 25 mph at times.

But storm chances look to be confined to areas along and north of I-69 in the northern parts of our North and West Zones late, late afternoon and this evening. We should all be on guard all week with this warm and unstable weather and the Marginal Risk for severe weather over the next three days for all of SE Lower Michigan.

We do have a better chance for scattered showers and storms Tuesday afternoon as the heat and humidity will stick around and be the spark for more active weather. It should be dry most of the day after some early morning showers fizzle out. The heat will be down a little as a result of more cloud cover and we need to keep our eyes to the skies with storms capable of producing heavy downpours, large hail, dangerous winds, and lots of lightning. Highs will likely stop in the upper 80s feeling warmer as the winds finally switch directions and bring slightly less humid air into Metro Detroit late tomorrow.

Early morning downpours possible Wednesday and then showers and storms will be on and off and scattered about the area throughout the day. As a result, temps will be down in the upper 70s to low 80s only warming if we get a storm free stretch midday. The heat will pour back in Thursday and Friday and the scattered storms also keep coming. You can track radar and when we expected more rain with our Local4Casters app.
